Exhibition in Bursa

The project exhibition at BursaPhotoFest 2012 in Turkey will open tomorrow, 15th September! The final works of the project will be exhibited in Fidan han during September 15-22. There will be a guided tour of the exhibition on September 16th, Sunday

at 12:00. The project catalogue will be on sale at the festival bookshop.

Exhibition in Braga

Hi Mr. Valdis

Latvia was a pleasure and I’m already waiting to be back next year. My search for my fellow name holders went well. In all I met with 10 Valdis’s. I have an idea of how the final outcome might be executed but I still need to do a lot of work first. And as a true Icelander I wait until the last minute to do everything. Now there is a week until the workshop and although the progress has been good I will not be able to finish photographing everyone. But I have been meeting up with a few female Valdis’s and I’m happy with the way it’s turning out. Here is some overview of what I have been up to with my project.

Failure

Looking more closely at my film I found that my camera failed me at some points, resulting in light leaks on some of my 35mm. I made tests before leaving, but I have never been the double checking type. This can at times be quite painful when photog

raphy is the medium in question.

This reminded me once again how fragile a medium photography is. Of all the dust, hair, fingerprints and other human “errors” we try to exclude from our film. Careful metering and developing. While digital photography frightens to death with the proposal: Format card?

This also made me think about other failures;
My failure to travel Turkey properly (only seeing certain landscapes and communities). My failure to understand Turkish culture. My failure to really grasp Turkey.

I feel like this might be the first, stumbling steps towards something, and surely not the end.
